This island is part of a vast nature reserve populated only by birds, reptiles, insects and multiple marine species. Isla Contoy is an islet without human habitat and is home to the largest number of birds, which is why it is also known as “Bird Island.”
To access it you must take a tour to Isla Contoy from Cancun. Only companies certified by federal authorities can provide this service and together they can only take a maximum of 200 people to the island per day.
Isla Contoy has a viewpoint that offers a spectacular panoramic view, a small museum, as well as several points where you can observe the local flora and fauna.
The islet has an elongated shape, 8 km long and 800 m wide. It is surrounded by a great variety of flora and fauna, which also includes a large reef that is home to a large number of marine species and birds.
